Tennyson Ashley. What a cool name. As soon as I met the little Mr. I was smitten with his head full of hair and funny little facial expressions. I was reminded of how delicate the features of a newborn are, how new and peely their skin is, and how tiny their feet are. He was quite the alert baby, not surprisingly though since he was 2 weeks and 1 day past his due date. He sure made his momma work for him to get here, but I’m so happy to say both baby and mommy are healthy and well. Despite not wanting to sleep much for our session, I still love these images. I took a more photojournalistic approach and just tried to capture baby and parents, as they were. It’s so clear that Chloe and Brian are absolutely in love with their new son, and it was just so sweet to be able to document that. We took most of the photos in their bedroom, where we did most of Chloe’s maternity pictures as well. Intimate, relaxed, and cozy. Perfect setting for family’s first photos.

Congratulations to the new parents, enjoy him. I know you will. Thank you so much for inviting me into your home at such a special time in your lives. Enjoy!

Big brother and little brother.

I missed her call because we were out playing at the park. When I listened to her voicemail, I thought, “What a sweet, nice lady she sounds like!” Meeting Lena in person confirmed it. She has a lovely, endearing southern accent (at least it sounded that way to my Yankee ears!) and this easy-goingness about her that makes it impossible not to like her. Conversation flowed between us about all the annoyances of pregnancy to the excitement of meeting her son in just a couple months. She was the perfect client, willing to do just about anything for me, including lying down in grass and flowers on her back. I felt so bad after asking her to do so;  after all, I was pregnant only a few short months ago and I know just how uncomfortable lying on your back at 7 months pregnant is! Nevertheless, she was a good sport We then continued our stroll around the NC Museum of Art and got some really beautiful shots; I really love this location since it provides both an outdoorsy feel with the wide open fields but you can also get a more urban, textured look to the shots with some of the old buildings. Really loved how this session turned out.
