I recently read about this little gem of trick to get kiddos to look at my camera for more than two seconds, if at all, so I tried it out on my nephew, Jeth. He was intrigued! We had just had doughnuts, so I told him I wanted to get a picture of his chocolatey mouth. I then asked him to try and find my eye through my lens, and I was able to get this series of shots within a matter of seconds. He was happy because was playing a game, I was happy because he was happy and looking at me, we were all winners! This is something I really, really want to get better at. Not only with kids but with adults as well. I find it so hard to get natural, not-too-posey shots, yet it’s kind of necessary to direct people to some extent otherwise I find that people end up feeling awkward. I can’t just say ‘OK, be natural!’ That’s a guaranteed way to end up with a very un-natural shot. So, I’m workin’ on it
I even asked him to do it a few minutes later, it still worked as he searched for my eye…
It did not work with these two
They are still a bit young to really take directions like that, but I still think they look super cute!
